Our client is seeking a passionate and creative part-time Nursery Chef to join their team. This role is all about creating nutritious and delicious meals for young children, from six weeks to five years old, in a warm, homely setting. The nursery is dedicated to fostering children’s growth and development.
As the Nursery Chef, you’ll prepare meals and snacks that are as nutritious as they are enjoyable. Working closely with the nursery team, you’ll ensure that every dish meets the dietary needs of each child, accommodating allergies, preferences, and nutrition guidelines. This role allows you to contribute to children’s early experiences with food, introducing them to healthy and tasty options in a welcoming environment.
About You
- Experience and Passion for Cooking: You have experience as a chef or cook, ideally with a background in preparing food for children or other specialised environments.
- Qualifications
- Food Safety and Hygiene Certificate (or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of dietary and nutritional requirements for children
- Relevant culinary qualifications are a plus, such as a NVQ in Professional Cookery
- Nutrition Awareness: You understand the importance of balanced meals for growing bodies and minds and are committed to delivering high-quality nutrition.
- Organised and Safety-Conscious: Maintaining kitchen safety and hygiene is second nature to you, and you work well within a part-time schedule.
- Friendly and Child-Focused: You’re approachable, warm, and understand the role that food plays in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Menu Planning and Preparation: Create and prepare a variety of balanced, age-appropriate meals that cater to the unique dietary needs of young children.
- Nutrition and Dietary Management: Ensure meals meet all nutritional guidelines and take into account allergies, intolerances, and cultural dietary needs.
- Kitchen Safety and Hygiene: Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment, adhering to food hygiene and safety standards.
- Supporting Learning: Occasionally engage with the children, sparking curiosity about food and nutrition in a positive way.
